The inaugural ceremony of the Zhongar Traditional Archery Championship (Season I) for the gewogs under Mongar Dzongkhag was formally held on 13 September 2025 at the Ridaza Traditional Archery Range.
The event was honored by the esteemed presence of the MSA President, Dasho Dzongdag alongside other distinguished dignitaries including Dasho Drangpoen, Dasho SP, Dasho Dzongrab, DT Thrizin, Gups and sector heads.
This year’s championship features the participation of 20 teams who will compete over the course of 19 days to claim the title. The competition will strictly adhere to the Zhongar style of archery and will be conducted under the best-of-three system for two days of play.
The tournament has been organized with the following objectives:
1. To preserve and promote the cultural heritage of traditional archery.
2. To strengthen community bonds and encourage healthy competition among the gewogs.
3. To foster youth engagement and transmit cultural skills to future generations.
The opening match was played between the Sherimuhoong Gewog team and the MAZA DAMCHEN team (Drepoong Gewog). At the end of the first day, both the team secured one set each, resulting in a draw. The match is scheduled to resume the following day to determine the winner.
