𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗩𝗢𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗦’ 𝗗𝗔𝗬, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

Every year, 15th September is observed as International Day of Democracy (IDD) around the world. This day is established in 2007 through passing consensus resolution by the United Nations General Assembly. This event is celebrated to promote and uphold democratic principles, and good governance.

Coinciding with IDD, Bhutan observes the day as National Voters’ Day (NVD) since 2014. This year, to mark the event, Monggar Dzongkhag celebrated NVD in collaboration with Monggar Higher Secondary School on the national theme “ReimaginingDemocracy; Celebrating Partnership, Inspiring Participation”.

The celebration was graced by Dasho Dzongdag as the Chief Guest, and read out NVD message from Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commission of Bhutan. One of the important program of the day include inspirational story from first-time voter and excitement to participate in Bhutanese democracy by to be a first-time voter. To engage and learn about Bhutanese democracy and election, a quiz competition was organized.

The day’s celebration ended with “National Voters’ Pledge” echoing to exercise franchise in every election, freely, without fear, favour, or inducement, to elect the most capable representative to serve the Tsawa-Sum.
