Every year, 15th September is observed as International Day of Democracy (IDD) around the world. This day is established in 2007 through passing consensus resolution by the United Nations General Assembly. This event is celebrated to promote and uphold democratic principles, and good governance.

Coinciding with IDD, Bhutan observes the day as National Votersโ€™ Day (NVD) since 2014. This year, to mark the event, Monggar Dzongkhag celebrated NVD in collaboration with Monggar Higher Secondary School on the national theme โ€œReimaginingDemocracy; Celebrating Partnership, Inspiring Participationโ€.

The celebration was graced by Dasho Dzongdag as the Chief Guest, and read out NVD message from Honโ€™ble Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commission of Bhutan. One of the important program of the day include inspirational story from first-time voter and excitement to participate in Bhutanese democracy by to be a first-time voter. To engage and learn about Bhutanese democracy and election, a quiz competition was organized.

The dayโ€™s celebration ended with โ€œNational Votersโ€™ Pledgeโ€ echoing to exercise franchise in every election, freely, without fear, favour, or inducement, to elect the most capable representative to serve the Tsawa-Sum.
