The newly elected Gup of Dramedtse Gewog and Tshogpa of Daag Chiwog under Silambi Gewog, Monggar Dzongkhag, took the Oath of Affirmation of Office today following a bye-election. The Election Commission of Bhutan conducted the bye-election in accordance with the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2008, after the passing of the previous officeholders.
The bye-election for Dramedtse Gup was held on November 6, 2024. Among the three candidates, Tenzin Jamtsho secured victory with 560 votes out of a total of 1,120 votes cast. The other candidates, Karma Wangchuk and Ugyen Tshering, received 194 and 366 votes, respectively.
Similarly, the bye-election for Daag Chiwog Tshogpa under Silambi Gewog took place on December 12, 2024. Rinchen Lethro emerged as the winner with 63 votes out of 96 total votes cast, while his opponent, Choten Dema, secured 33 votes.
The Dzongkhag warmly welcomes Gup Tenzin Jamtsho and Tshogpa Rinchen Lethro, wishing them success in their new roles and expressing confidence in their leadership within the local government.
