On May 13, 2025, the Department of Environment and Climate Change under the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources conducted an awareness program on the Giant African Land Snail in collaboration with the Dzongkhag Administration.
The program was attended by officials from the Royal Bhutan Police (RBP), Bhutan Food and Drug Authority (BFDA), Natural Resources Development Corporation Limited (NRDCL), Bhutan Power Corporation Limited (BPCL), Regional Forest Office, De-Suung Office, Agriculture Research and Development Center (ARDC), Kurichhu Hydropower Plant Corporation (KHPC), Department of Surface Transport (DoST), schools, Agriculture Extension Office, Dzongkhag Environment Sector, and Gups from Mongar, Chali, Saling, and Drepong Gewogs.
The objective of the program was to raise awareness and educate the community on the impacts of the Giant African Land Snail on agricultural crops and vegetables, human health, and the living environment. Additionally, the program aimed to strengthen collaboration among relevant stakeholders and agencies in eradicating the Giant African Land Snail infestation in Gyelpozhing, Mongar.
