To celebrate the 117th National Day, as a build up program, the Dzongkhag administration along with the education sector and Monggar Sports Association conducted an Open "Marathon" competition among the public of Monggar Dzongkhag. A total of 54 participants took part, comprising 16 men and 38 women.
The marathon route covered a distance of 5 km for men, starting from Kidheykhar to Monggar Public Ground, and 4 km for women, along the same path.
In the men's category, Mr. Sonam Gyeltshen secured first place, completing the run in 20 minutes, followed by Damchu Norbu in 22 minutes, and Ugyen Thinley Wangchuk in 23 minutes.
In the women's category, Ms. Phurpa Zangmo clinched first place by completing the run in 18 minutes, closely followed by Tshewang Pelden in 18 minutes and 55 seconds, and Rinchen Yangzom in 19 minutes..
