The Dzongkhag Agriculture Sector in collaboration with National Soil Service Centre observed the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought on 17th June 2019 at Thridangbi, Saling Gewog under Mongar Dzongkhag.
The theme of World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought 2019 marks the 25th anniversary of the UN Convention to combat Desertification with the slogan "25 YEARS - Let's grow the future together".
More than 200 farmers from Thidangbi and Dangmaling cheog under Saling Gewog led by the Gup and Tshogpas participated in the program.
The NSSC Semtokha, DoA MoAF, Mongar Dzongkhag Agriculture Sector, ARDC Wengkhar and the farmers in preparation for the day developed a total of about 35 acres by planting live fodder hedgerows and fruit planting - avocados supported under the ARDC Wengkhar-Dzongkhag avocado village program. The program is funded through the GEF-LDCF supports to MoAF and coordinated by NSSC Semtokha.
Mongar Dzongdag Dasho Ugyen Sonam, Thidangbi lam, Sengor lam and local government officials participated in observing the day.
